Mark Vesey

Mark Vesey was born in New Zealand in1958. He studied graphic design at the Auckland technical institute in 1978/79, then worked as a freelance illustrator and scenic artist for TVNZ and the burgeoning film industry.

It was during this period that Mark began to paint in a realist surreal style, culminating in 1983 with a solo New Zealand exhibition. Mark travelled to Japan in 1985, arranging a solo exhibition in Tokyo.

In 1986 Mark moved to Sydney to further his career as an illustrator, working in the advertising industry for a wide range of clientele. Throughout this time Mark continued to paint for pleasure.

Mark’s next move was in 2006, to Western Australia’s South West region, with its vineyards, forests and the extraordinary “blue” of Indian Ocean as inspiration.

During his time in Sydney, he was a frequent visitor to South East Queensland and in 2014 relocated to Maroochydore. On the advice of a friend, who recommended the Holloway Gallery, Mark made contact with Annie and Barrie and was impressed with their passion and enthusiasm.

This journey has been a quest for light, it has taken me to some extraordinary places and is something I never tire of. Throughout the creative process I have been inspired by my love of music, I have tried to capture the physical beauty of the instruments and the fun of both playing and listening.”
